Lake Superior - no fresh water lake in the world has a larger surface area. It's the main reason tourists come to this area. The changing faces of "the big lake" keep residents here on their toes. A November storm can sink a ship or tear up a road along the shoreline. A calm summer day can bring relief from the intense heat away from the lake. Lake Superior keeps us cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. She truly is a "great lake."
